Essay

OMEGA introduced the Speedmaster Professional Mark II in 1969 and as name ‘Mark II’ implies, it was just another new version of the regular Speedmaster Professional wristwatch. The dial remained the same except for the wording which was changed to read Mark II while the hands and movement were to the Speedmaster Professional. The shape of the case was also changed to a two-body tonneau-shaped, polished and brushed case with screw down case back.

The Speedmaster Mark II was fitted with the same Lemania based Calibre 861 movement which was a hand-wound copper coloured chronograph movement. The calibre 861 movement remained in production until 1997 before OMEGA began to use the calibre 1861
