Essay

The reference 2440, also known as the "clubs" model was launched in 1946 and was made in yellow and pink gold. Patek Philippe ceased production of this reference around 1953. It is considered one of the rarest shape watches and an iconic piece amongst collectors. The name "clubs" comes from the prominent double drop flat shape lugs, reminiscent of clover leaves, as well as the "club-shaped" hour indexes at 3 and 9 o'clock.
