Essay

Patek Philippe introduced the reference 2508 in 1951 and was in production until 1960. Its aesthetic design included a Taubert waterproof case. The reference 2508 features several differentiating elements from that of its more classic vintage time only pieces. Its larger 35mm diameter case was manufactured by Taubert & Fils, and somewhat resembles the celebrated chronograph reference 1463. The screw-down case back provides a sportier feeling to the watch. It was Patek Philippe's first endeavour into the waterproof, time-only wristwatch market. In addition, it featured an innovative ’double case back’ design, with a metal dust cap to protect it from moisture and magnetism. This well-preserved example features thick proportions to the lugs and strong definition to the case.
