Essay: The Louis Cartier collection was launched in 1972 to commemorate Cartier's move from France to Switzerland. Twelve new models were launched among them the Cartier Gondole.
The Cartier Gondole were initially made with large case designs in a vertical orientation or horizontal orientation which became known as the TV-shaped case by collectors. The case featured a double step bezel. and were made in either 18ct white or yellow gold. Later due to their popularity the Gondole was made smaller for ladies.
