John Snow and his brother Nicholas were clock and watchmakers based in Salisbury, England. Both brothers are buried at the Church of St. Thomas, Salisbury.
This piece is an exceptionally early example of a portable timekeeper. Its verge movement features a balance that pre dates the invention of the hairspring, cattle gut line fusée and ratchet & click setup - one of the earliest forms of regulation in a portable timekeeper.
